Doesn't all this cold weather have you wishing for spring? If spring can't arrive soon enough for you, try creating your own little bit of spring with an indoor herb garden. All you need is a sunny window, containers, soil and your favorite herb seeds.

Start by deciding what herbs you would like to grow. Choose herbs that will compliment the foods you enjoy. Basil, thyme, and oregano are used in pasta dishes and sauces. If you enjoy tea, try one of the many varieties of mint, lemon verbena, or chamomile. If you're a salad lover, parsley and chives are a must have.

When selecting your seeds, observe the recommendations for spacing on the seed packet. Most herbs can be mixed in a container with others, but there are some that will need a pot of their own, as determined by their growth habit and mature size.

Once you've planted your seeds, germination usually takes place within 7 - 10 days. Have fun watching your plants grow and in as little as a few weeks, you'll be enjoying the taste of fresh herbs!

As always, the Southwood staff is available to assist you in selecting any supplies you may need. We have a great selection of seeds and seed starting products. Of course if you need any advice or additional information we will be happy to supply you with the knowledge and supplies you need to get your indoor herb garden growing!
